Philosophers Fish Story

A story: A man goes fishing each day in all kinds of weather, year in and year out.  He has some kind of hope or faith, you might say, that eventually he will catch a fish.  Usually if he stays true to his actions i.e. his fishing actions, he will be rewarded with fish.  Can we as Philosophers abstract some sort of faith or principles, like in the story of the fisherman, just from the practice of philosophy alone,

or do we need something more as humans.  We are told that all humans at some point, learn to rely on some sort of basic faith.  The language of the Philosopher is somewhat particular but also universal.
